Why Is Threat Intelligence Important?

Home » FAQs » Exposure Management » Why Is Threat Intelligence Important?

Threat intelligence is important because it gives security teams evidence-based insight into which threats are actually targeting organizations like theirs, allowing them to focus resources on real-world risk rather than every theoretical possibility. It provides information on active threat actors, their tactics and techniques, the vulnerabilities they are exploiting, and indicators of compromise such as malicious IP addresses, domains, and file hashes.

That context improves decisions across the security program. In vulnerability management, knowing that a vulnerability is being actively exploited or has a public exploit available can move it from a routine fix to an urgent one. In detection and response, intelligence helps analysts recognize attacks sooner and understand their scope. At the strategic level, it informs security investment and helps leadership understand the threat landscape in business terms. Continuous exploit monitoring is especially valuable now that the window between disclosure and exploitation has shrunk to days or less in many cases, partly because AI is lowering the barrier for attackers to develop working exploits.
